Options to lower infestation don't really occur until later in the game. One pops up as a random event called Becker is a genius where you can trade a day for a recuction in infestation. Another uses 10 xenosamples for a reducation in infestation.

You can slow infestation down by trying to do as much as possible in each day. Try not to needlessly leave mission areas and try and keep your marines as safe as possible to avoid long healing times.
